Re: What I had in mind
I think I made something similar for a friend wedding: she asked to everyone of us to give them a piece of fabric, square, with something stitched on it, or painted or anything else we were able to do. With the pieces they made a blanket (or quilt). I think it's a lovely idea.
About *our* project, I just want to thank Cyanure for starting all this, Jools and Graeme for all their enthusiastic efforts providing us with the tiles, Inki for making the hanger and everyone of you for taking part to it. I'm sure Carol will be much more than happy about all this.

Re: What I had in mind
While showing the tile and the 'sketches' I had done to a friend last night, she said something that made me think. She said, 'so you'll do artwork on both sides'. and I said 'duuh'. and then 'oh that's a good idea, why didn't I think of that? I must post this on the forum'
So here we go. Could be nice (for those who wish it) to do something on both sides of the tiles, or perhaps just sign on the other side.
Just throwing ideas.

Thanks Nadine, I sort of touched on that in the letter I sent with each piece, point number 4 I believe, sign on the reverse if you wish or something like that anyway. It has also been mentioned on here somewhere too I think.

Re: What I had in mind
Either that or could do something on both sides, and Carol could decide which she wants to display. Easiest to keep it simple though - one side is enough I think; perhaps a little doodle to accompany the signature is about all.

Yes, you indeed suggest that the signature may go on the back, but not that we may do art on both sides.
Good idea, Nadine.

Good idea, I like the signature on the back.
Will try and have the pegs in to board tomorrow. When I do, I'll post progress.

Re: What I had in mind
I couldn't resist trying my ordinary colour pencils directly on the tile, it works (I was even able to erase somethign without leaving a trace). The colours aren't very strong, but it's a recognisable cow. Now I'm waiting for Gérald to come back to draw the flower (a daisy, obviously) and then I'll take a picture and post it in the new thread.

Re: What I had in mind
Do you intend to send an accompanying letter with the hanger so Carol knows what it's for or is it to remain a suprise until the pieces arrive and she figures it out?

Re: What I had in mind
I believe we asked Inki to include a note asking Carol to keep an eye on the mail and to expect some packages. Hopefully she'll figure it out when a few pieces arrive, it will make it more of a surprise I hope.
Does everyone agree with this? Inki is still working on the hanger so we have time to let Inki know to send full details if people feel that is the better option.

A little intrigue and anticipation is good for folks.
And Carol's fairly bright. She'll figure it out.

Re: What I had in mind
Of course I could always tie the ribbon on and include my piece as sort of a demonstration.
I meant to ask about any note included;
What do I say from ALL of us?
Let's just work on some of the key phrases, I'll be happy to write it out by hand or something.
And I went for a drive yesterday, so I got set back a aday.
But luckily my dad and brother were very willing to help me catch up today.
but I will get this officially stained and sealed tomorrow, barring no surprises.
It will have a sturdy hanger in the back, inletted, so it can rest against a wall area flat.
And don't worry, it will look pretty than the flash makes it.
I also have metal tapping stamps of letters and numbers, I could do
some wording on the back......
Not an epic, but a date, dedication, and anything else?
Any last minute suggestions, this is how it is and there's still time to ask for something else.

Re: What I had in mind
Inki, that's looking good On the back you could perhaps put something like
"With love from The Howers, 2008"
For the note I suggest something like...
"Cyanure had an idea to create something special for you, here is the first piece, you'll have to wait and see what comes next "
Also Inki, did your package arrive yet? I think you are among the last ones now as Canuck Girl and Me2v3 got a package today.

Re: What I had in mind
DOH! Sorry I forgot to post in the Proper thread! I did get the package.
The Hanger is stained and sealed, tomorrow I will glaze and final seal it.
But my dad thinks the hanging wire in the back is unattractive, and deserves some sort of proper pretty chain or something.
I will root around, I don't want to wait until the weekend to go out and GET a pretty chain when I could ship it by then.

Should we have sent your dad a tile to decorate as well?

Re: What I had in mind
Maybe. He's getting me cows now too apparently...
And referring to something Janet said in the other thread, didn't we mention once some little weight to put at the end of the threads? Something easily put on and taken off, methinks, when Carol adds a tile.

Re: What I had in mind
There are quite a number of tiles so the combined weight of them should make the ribbon hang correctly. At the end of the day that part will be up to Carol to sort out. She might like the pieces to move around in a breeze rather than just hanging there all stiff and regimented.

Re: What I had in mind
How did you guess he wanted to get you something cow related? I just said her wanted to get you something!Maybe. He's getting me cows now too apparently...
I think I will have to ship the piece out Monday.
I am trying for tomorrow, but I have to write out the note, paint my tile and finish the hanger tonight, and today isn't the best of day for me
to inject much of my personal work in to today's routine.
And tomorrow is a town trip to 2 separate towns involving flu shots and some errands.
Good news, i will put up 'prettier' hanger wire, and my mum will help my have the box ready by Monday. (Or maybe Saturday if I get pushing)
BTW, on the back of the hanger I hammered out
FROM THE HOWERS
DEDICATED WITH HOPE AND LOVE
TO CAROL 2008
So, to line out what I need to do;
NOTE.
How about I hand write out a lovely calligraphy/handwritten note along the lines of one of Cyanure's wacky stories, like....
Once upon a time,
There was a great Group of Friends from around the world, who called themselves the Howers, since that was much shorter than calling themselves People-who-like-Mr-John-Howe's-art-and-are-friends-from-everywhere-you-can-imagine.
One of them had a terrible evil malady befall them, and the Howers were grief stricken.
Worse, being from around the world, they could not be there to hug her personally.
And they wanted to do more than tell her how much they cared by emails and notes.
So, sneakily, the craziest Hower who calls herself Cyanure convened the Howers in their secret castle on a remote island.
And after much eating of chocolate and discussing at the Not-so-Round Table, all of them came up with a beautiful idea that would give this stricken Hower something to have that would remind her everyone was thinking of her always.
Just an idea, have something for me today so I can finish this tonight, if possible.

Re: What I had in mind
Inki,
The dedication on the back is PERFECT
A pretty chain will be most excellent
The little story is amazing and almost made me cry
Graeme had a quick look and he thinks it's great too, I'm pretty sure the others will agree
Well done Inki, I certainly appreciate the time and effort you have put into making the hanger, thank you

Nothing to add to what Jools said (except I didn't cry).
Great work InKi!
Jools, can you keep Cyanure up to date?
PS InKi, it wasn't difficult to guess...
