I was thinking of putting 'art material' as that is essentially what it is, a substrate for AJ & Rosie to work on. If that does not work we'll come up with something else.

If the pieces are returned then the alternative is AJ and Rosie send their works of art to Graeme and I, we can stick that onto the pieces and then forward them to Carol.

I would imagine that if the pieces are plywood, and sanded and primed it would not cause a problem....the concern would be insects, etc. from raw wood, but I don't know what the regulations are.

The wood, if you can call it that is MDF..link.

It has already been cut to size, drilled and has it's first coat of white primer on one side. We can do no more until that is dry.

7.5 cms (3 inches) square, with a 4mm hole drilled near the centre of the top and bottom edges.

We just primed the second side and they're all drying now.

There shouldn't be any regulations about mdf, should there? It's not a 'natural" or "organic" product.

Has somebody purchased 4mm pink ribbon?

Things seem to be all agreeded.

I just want to let you know that I totally concur with square tiles linked together with the pink ribbon.
So, I look forward to receive my little piece of wood. Smile

MDF should be fine, since it's processed - they should only really have a problem if it's living wood, since they're paranoid about bugs getting into native trees (too late, but it's a native borer that does the damage, so I'm not sure what their problem is...)
If all else fails, indeed, we'll make sure we do something that can be sent to G&J to be transfered to the wood.
Down to 3 inches now? That's alright, plenty of room.

Uuugh, not to go totally OT, but my sympathies.
It was difficult shipping a wood crib to Australia...
but the plywood crate caused more fuss. Suspect
We had a few day delay because of all these questions regarding the wood treatment
aspects and what kind of wood was it and....

I'm still here. Have laptop, will travel.

To give a rundown on what we have so far:

  • Size of each square, 3" (7.5 cm)
  • Graeme and Jools have already cut out all squares and primed them.
  • The pink ribbon has been ordered.
  • G&J will get with InKi about whether they or she will do the pegboard.
  • The padded envelopes have been ordered.
  • Each piece will be delivered in the envelope with an address label with Carol's address.

Sorry if I've missed anything.

Thanks Avara, I'll also include in the envelope a printed sheet with instructions on what to do just to save folks reading through this forum again. I started writing that out last night Wink

The pink ribbon arrived with me this morning, at around 6:30 am, the benefit of working in the delivery office is getting your mail very early Wink We're just waiting on the padded envelopes.

Today has seen further sanding and priming of the pieces. Realistically we're looking at posting out the first pieces on Friday Cool

Graeme and Inki are working out the board to hang the pieces from between them, I think we trust them enough to do a good job don't we? Laughing

Everything's moving smoothly, it's cool.

I've been doodling a little last night and thought I could share it here, even if I suppose anybody does what he/she wants, right?

I haven't colored it yet, imagine the ribbon, pink on the first one. and summery colors on the second.

Nadine, that's great, well done you Very Happy

What I would suggest is that you make sure your name is on your piece somewhere so that Carol knows who created each mini artwork Cool

really?

Imagine that.

I haven't decided exactly what I want to do, but I think I'll send a "get well" card with it to express the sentiment and just let the art on the wood piece be art. I want it to be hanging on her wall for years and years after the cancer thing is in remission.

I've got a couple of thoughts, though one's quite abstract.
I'll post them once they're drafted up - they're a bit amorphous in my head atm ;o)
