Beautiful, Irene!
When it loaded I didn't see right away who had posted it but it made me think of you at once.
tree, thanks for the IPA picker link, you never know when it might come in handy. (The ATL code doesn't work for me either: Y)

Very nice Irene
And you are not late, the whole idea was for the pieces to arrive at different times rather than all at once, it makes it more fun for Carol not knowing where and who the next piece will come from.
To paraphrase Gandalf......"A tile is never late, it arrives precisely when it means to"

Nice work, Carl...very bold! And Irene, yours is lovely as well. Two completely different tiles (well, 30 completely different tiles!). Gosh, to think what this gesture might be doing for Carol's well-being.

Re: Here's What I Created.
I checked the character map and it sports the schwa but not the ALT code for it, just the UNICODE. That being said, you can still copy/paste it from there.
The ALT+0601 code is working for me in MS Word but not here on the forum for example (it renders a Y), although that may have something to do with the coding used for the page.

I get nothing at all in Word and a Y in Star Office (my normal word processing application). Guess I'm doing something wrong

Re: Here's What I Created.
My tile went out today.
The color is a bit off in the photos, but I just don't have the patience to mess with Photoshop any longer today. Sorry the back image is blurred.

Thanks Jools and Graeme. I liked the sparkly ribbons too. I had bought some for another project, but when I went back to the store to buy some for this... they had moved them! I walked the store aisles for 30 minutes before I found them.

Nice work everyone.
Tree, your explanation about "something" is exactly my point. If Tengwar is a collection of phonetic symbols that can be used to write English, but English is pronounced dozens of diffferent ways, what is the correct way to write "something"?
And can a phonetic language even have silent letters?
(That was a rhetorical question.)

I'd say that corresponding to the pronunciation specified in the British English dictionnaries, but that's a parti pris, obviously.

Thanks!
I don't draw or paint very well, so I had to think of an alternative...

Re: Here's What I Created.
...late as usual. After three attempts I finally managed to get this one finished. I also wanted to include a pink ribbon but didn't dare to touch the finished piece again after I did a lousy job on the strings. The colours on the original are a bit darker.
